Excellence Through Service
We encourage community involvement and input. By working together, we will continue to create and maintain the quality of life we expect for all who live in and visit Albany.

neighborhoodNeighborhood Watch was created to involve citizens in discouraging and preventing residential crime. Citizens secure their homes and personal property and report any suspicious activity to the police. In early 1972, the National Sheriff's Association developed a model program for today's Neighborhood Watch program. Although the rate of specific crimes such as burglary decreased tremendously, a further benefit has been the substantial reduction of other crimes due to citizen involvement.

Neighborhood Watch educates participants in the principles of deterrence, delay, and detection. The program depends on a communication network organized with three levels of participants – the resident, block leaders and co-leaders, and a local law enforcement representative.
