Volunteer & Internship Programs
Many local fire departments offer volunteer opportunities as well as internship programs. These opportunities are an excellent way to gain experience and obtain many entry level firefighting certifications required for future job opportunities. Volunteering usually requires living in the district of the department you are volunteering with, attending weekly training, and responding from home to the station for emergency calls. An internship will typically provide you with room and board, and some reimbursement for education in exchange for pulling shift at the department to respond on emergencies and perform assigned duties.
