According to the 2022 American Community Survey, Albany is considered a severely rent burdened city, meaning more than 25% of renters spend over 50% of their income on rent.
The City is pursuing priority strategies from the Housing Implementation Plan (HIP) to address housing needs, including the need for affordable housing, in Albany. These strategies include both revisions to the Albany Development Code and housing policies to incentivize housing that is affordable.
